Workshop 1 – Introduction to Chalk Painting

Introduction to Chalk Painting (guided experimentation to create a sample board of the three most popular chalk paint finishes)

Working with the Annie Sloan brand, learners try out the chalk paints, waxes and specialised finishes currently popular amongst up-cyclers and furniture artists. Crackling, ageing and distressing as well as smooth finishes using Annie Sloan’s amazing products. All supervised and guided step by step, this is an essential basic workshop to get started with transforming old furniture or to start selling your own hand painted treasures.

Upcycling and ‘hacking’ furniture is now a global phenomenon we all should be supporting as it’s an extremely therapeutic and enjoyable (not to mention strangely addictive) way to stop throwing things away.

Furniture takes on whatever colour or pattern you want it to when you treat it to a coat of chalk paint. You create your own signature style, and the best thing is, you do not have to sand or prime! Before you buy your first tin, it’s best to pop down to a workshop and make a sample board.

Not only will it help you to discover what works best for you as a furniture painter, but it’s fun and you have a board to take home as a reference to what products you have used and what techniques you have tried.

Look out for the evening workshops named ‘Chalk and Cheese’ where we do a little bit of local cheese sampling as well as learning how to chalk paint!
